It’s common for the same variable to serve as both a dependent variable under the influence of one or more variables and a predictor of other variables in process evaluations. In the estimation of mediation models designed to explore such processes, the variance-based structural equation modeling method known as PLS-SEM is increasingly being utilized. Researchers may decide to use a single binary indicator to represent an endogenous structure in order to specify a choice situation. However, the latent structure becomes dependent on the measurement of the variable, which poses problems for approaches used in the ordinary least squares regression to estimate the path coefficients.
