The Nursing Week Symposium

Events“The Nursing Week Symposium” planned in cooperation with Koç University School of Nursing, Semahat Arsel Nursing Education, Practice and Research Center and Koç Healthcare, was held online on Thursday, May 11th 2023. 320 international and national participants from several countries such as Mexico, the United States, Cyprus, Somalia, Ireland, Spain, Egypt, France, Chile, Tanzania, Italy and Turkey attended the symposium with the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future.”
Mrs. Semahat Arsel, the Chair of the Board of Directors of Vehbi Koç Foundation, who has made very important contributions to the professional development of the nursing profession in Turkey, honored the symposium with her participation. The symposium starting with Prof. Dr. Ayişe Karadağ’s opening speech as the Dean of Koç University School of Nursing (KUSON) continued with the conference chaired by KUSON emeritus professor Prof. Dr. Ayişe Ferda Ocakçı. In the conference, Dr. Pamela Cipriano, the President of the International Council of Nursing, spoke on “Global Health and Nursing: Our Nurses, Our Future.” Later on, the symposium continued with the panel in which Dr. Ruth Ludwick, the faculty member of Kent State University, spoke about “Our Nurses, Our Future: The Current Situation in the USA.” We also thank all other distinguished participants who contibuted to the panel, including SANERC Director and KUSON faculty member Pelin Karaçay, Vice President of Turkish Nurses Association Hülya Bulut, Koç University Hospital Nursing Services Manager Berrin Bulut Çepni and Koç University Hospital Nursing Supervisor Nazmiye Köseoğlu.

Three of our faculty members have been recognized by Europe’s most prestigious funds.
Asst. Prof. Aslı E. Mert from the Sociology Department has been chosen by the Horizon Europe Program as one of the partners of the “Twinning Research and Innovation Institutions to Design and Implement Inclusive GEPs (NEXUS) Project”. Prof. Demircan Canadinç, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, received the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s Humboldt Research Award for his studies on characterizing metallic materials using multiscale experimental and computational methods, designing microstructures and alloys using artificial intelligence, improving the performance of metals under monotonic and cyclic loads, and designing metallic biomedical materials.
