Awards and HonorsAsst. Prof. Aslı E. Mert from the Sociology Department has been chosen by the Horizon Europe Program as one of the partners of the “Twinning Research and Innovation Institutions to Design and Implement Inclusive GEPs (NEXUS) Project”. Prof. Demircan Canadinç, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, received the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s Humboldt Research Award for his studies on characterizing metallic materials using multiscale experimental and computational methods, designing microstructures and alloys using artificial intelligence, improving the performance of metals under monotonic and cyclic loads, and designing metallic biomedical materials. Asst. Prof. Ceyhun Arslan from the Comparative Literature Department has been deemed worthy of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s Georg Forster Research Fellowship given to experienced researchers, for his work analyzing literary studies, aiming to overcome the established geopolitical and cultural boundaries of the 19th century.
Asst. Prof. Aslı E. Mert The European Commission has awarded ~1 M € funding to a new Horizon Europe project in which Koç University is a partner. Asst. Prof. Aslı E. Mert from the Department of Sociology is a part of the Twinning Research and Innovation Institutions to Design and Implement Inclusive GEPs (NEXUS) project which aims to co-design, implement, monitor and evaluate innovative and targeted actions at bridging inclusivity gaps in nine research organizations and their respective R&I ecosystems to bolster institutional change through the development of inclusive Gender Equality Plans (GEPs) in intersectional and intersectoral directions. The project, which will last for 24 months, has 10 partners, including Koç University and the project coordinator Dublin University.

Prof. Dr. Demircan Canadinç Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü’nden Prof. Dr. Demircan Canadinç, metalik malzemelerin çok ölçekli deneysel ve hesaplamalı yöntemlerle karakterize edilmesi, yapay zekâ ile mikroyapı ve alaşım tasarlanması, metallerin monoton ve çevrimsel yükler altında performanslarının iyileştirilmesi ve metalik biyomedikal malzeme tasarımı alanlarındaki çalışmaları için Alexander von Humboldt Vakfı Humboldt Araştırma Ödülü’ne layık görüldü. Araştırmacılara alanlarında kariyerleri boyunca yaptığı katkılardan dolayı verilen ödül kapsamında Almanya’da bir sene boyunca uzman meslektaşlarıyla iş birliği içinde diledikleri üniversite/enstitüde araştırma desteği sağlanıyor. Prof. Dr. Canadinç 1 Şubat 2023’ten beri Leibniz Üniversitesi Malzeme Enstitüsü’nde yeni nesil implant malzemesi olarak NbZr bazlı alaşım ve mikroyapısının yapay zekâ ve diğer hesaplamalı teknikler ile tasarlanması konusunda çalışmalarını sürdürüyor. Bu sayede kontrollü biçimde antibiyotik salımı yapan bir diş implant tasarımına uygun malzemelerin geliştirilmesi amaçlanıyor. |

Prof. Demircan Canadinç Prof. Demircan Canadinç from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, received the highly prestigious Humboldt Research Award for his excellent research on the mechanical properties of metallic materials and their microstructural causes. The Humboldt Research Awards are given to internationally renowned scientists and scholars who work outside of Germany in recognition of their lifetime research achievements.Prof. Canadinç has been working on the design of NbZr-based alloys and their microstructure using artificial intelligence and other computational techniques as a new generation implant material at Leibniz University Materials Institute since February 1, 2023. In this way, it is aimed to develop materials suitable for a dental implant design with the controlled antibiotic release. |
