Medical Microbiology (MS and PhD)

Medical Microbiology MS and PhD programs target the education of young scientists who are interested in microorganisms that are pathogenic in humans and their disease-causing mechanisms. In these programs, training is provided based on current approaches and technologies regarding the reproductive characteristics of bacteria, viruses and fungi, their disease-causing strategies, diagnostic approaches to the diseases they cause, and the effectiveness of antimicrobial agents to be used in treatment. It is aimed that students accepted to the program will not only receive comprehensive theoretical knowledge in the fields of health sciences and sciences, but also gain experience with practical applications in highly technologically equipped laboratories. Research projects are carried out at Koç University İş Bankası Infectious Diseases Research Center (KUISCID). Techniques such as sequence technologies, cell culture, viral culture, microbial gene editing, biofilm production, imaging techniques and flow cytometry are used in the projects carried out at the center. Students accepted to the Medical Microbiology program have the opportunity to participate in multi-center studies carried out at the center in addition to their thesis studies.
